Welcome!

Peggy Bruns

Welcome to our community music school; I hope that you’ll have a long and enjoyable musical experience here! I believe that music is transformative: I see it all the time in the light on
a child’s face, the spring in an adult’s step, and the tears in an audience member’s eyes.
Besides the inherent value of music as an art and other intrinsic benefits such as emotional
engagement, self-expression/self-esteem and the connection to others that music provides, much is known about the extrinsic benefits of enhanced ability in cognitive areas such as math and language, and help with memory loss. And now research tells us that education in the arts—and in music, specifically—is excellent preparation for gaining these 21st century skills: critical thinking/reasoning, collaboration, flexibility, adaptability, multi-tasking, invention, and self-knowledge/self-direction. Just in case you needed more reasons to make music! Please check out our many offerings for the 2011-2012 school year, and if there’s something you’d like to do that you don’t see in this catalog, let us know. I look forward to meeting you.

In Music,

Getting Started at the RMCMA

Placement for New Students
First, take a look at our offering on this website.  Students enrolling for a group or ensemble can accomplish that online, and those interested in individual or small group instruction may begin enrollment through an information request here.  However, especially for individual and small group lesson students or parents, it really begins by having a conversation/consultation with our Registrar, Nancy Brace.  She can give you detailed information and take you on a tour of our community music school, and also work to provide the best match between student and teacher.  If your student has special needs or learning challenges, please let Nancy know . And we appreciate your understanding that during peak registration periods, it may take 7-14 business days to process the placement of a new student.

Phase I Construction at RMCMA

Phase I of the construction at RMCMA is compete!  During the month of August, 2010, construction crews worked to replace the roof, install a new HVAC system and to add sound mitigation to four teaching studios.  Students and faculty are thrilled with the changes!  We are very thankful for the donors and construction crews who worked so hard to make this dream a reality.  Please click here for a full list of acknowledgments.
